Target Hunger depends upon the support of the community to fulfill our mission.  A vital aspect of that support is volunteerism. Each year, Target Hunger welcomes hundreds of volunteers who donate their time to help children, families, and seniors in need of food assistance. If you are interested in volunteering with Target Hunger, please complete an application or request.

Current Volunteer Opportunities

Drive-Thru Food Distributions

Volunteer to help pack bags filled with food and place into the trunk’s of cars.

Community Garden

Do you enjoy working outdoors? Do you want to share your passion for gardening with others?  We welcome both novice and experienced gardeners to volunteer at our Community Garden. Volunteers work together to grow 6,000 pounds of nutritious produce that is distributed through Target Hunger Pantries and Food Fairs.

Other Volunteer Opportunities

Food Pantry

Food pantry volunteers help with the most fundamental part of our mission – getting food to the people who need it most. Duties may include preparation and pantry set-up, sorting and repacking food, and helping clients shop.

Distribution

Before our clients can receive food, it must be sorted and packaged. Our main warehouse is where this all happens. Volunteers will help with the logistics of getting packed food to the pantries in our serving area and making sure they are ready for their clients.

Educational Food Fair

Volunteer as a member of a team that helps Houstonians learn about nutrition and a healthy lifestyle.  Our Educational Food Fairs are open to anyone in Houston and provide participants with a mini-workshop about healthy living as well as fresh produce.  Your help is needed in repackaging produce and assisting with our clients intake process.

Senior Route Delivery

Please help a senior with limited mobility have access to food this month.  This dedicated team of volunteers delivers food and provides a much appreciated check-in on our elderly clients.  A six month route commitment is required.

Special Events

Special Events volunteers help staff support for special events and may be involved with guest registration, greeting and ushering guests, or participating in special hunger relief activities.  This is a great way to be involved on a grand scale and help promote Target Hunger in the community.
