Who We Are (Since 1989)

A Message from the Board of Directors

“Be the change that you wish to see in the world.”
― Mahatma Gandhi

Lemel “Mel” Jones, Target Hunger’s CEO for the past 3+ years, will be leaving Target
Hunger at the end of September 2017 to pursue other opportunities. The Board of
Directors thanks Mel for the energy, passion, dedication and leadership she has devoted to Target Hunger’s mission, and clients, during her time with our agency; she will be missed.

The Target Hunger Board is pleased to announce that Ms. Russanne Kelley has agreed to join Target Hunger as the agency’s interim CEO. Ms. Kelley has a strong track record of senior leadership positions in the non-profit and for-profit sectors, including a number of years with the United Way assisting agency leaders and Boards with capacity building, leadership development and addressing complex agency challenges.

“Leadership transitions present a unique set of challenges for any organization, but the Board is confident Ms. Kelley will provide the strong and steady leadership Target
Hunger needs until a longer-term replacement for Mel is found,” said Mr. John Simon, Target Hunger Board Chair. Target Hunger is an essential provider of services to 5 zip codes comprising most of Northeast Houston, including the Greater Fifth Ward, Kashmere Gardens and Denver Harbor. “The need for Target Hunger is greater than ever, especially after the devastating flooding from Hurricane Harvey. Our agency and Board remain fully committed to our mission of alleviating hunger and its root causes in our community.”
