Target Hunger is working to promote self sufficiency for an underserved community. Target Hunger offers the following programs to empower families to become self-sufficient:
Nutrition Classes
The Texas Agricultural Extension Service teaches nutrition classes twice a month. These classes help maximize utilization of food resources. Menu planning, budgeting, food purchasing and preparation are some of the topics that are addressed in these courses. They are a mandatory requirement for anyone under 49 years old to receive food.
Quarterly Job Search Workshops
Quarterly, clients of Target Hunger are given the opportunity to attend employment workshops. The clients are taught interviewing skills and the use of electronic job banks to locate job opportunities.
Education / Literacy Programs
Literacy - Instructors help clients and their children improve their reading and writing skills.
GED – Instructors prepare clients for the General Equivalency Diploma test by focusing on key areas such as math, English and grammar.
ESL – Instructors teach English as a Second Language to non-English speaking clients or community residents.
Self-Esteem Workshops
Self-Esteem Workshops are taught by guest speakers from area agencies and include volunteers who have overcome significant barriers in life as they worked to become self-sufficient.
Counseling Services
Free family counseling services are provided to clients. |
