Target Hunger Houston A Personal Story During Hunger Action Month
Every day, Target Hunger’s dedicated staff take their places on the front lines of poverty, hunger, and food insecurity. A two-time retiree, Jackie began volunteering with us immediately after Hurricane Harvey. Now she serves as the pantry coordinator for our Northeast Pantry, one of Target Hunger’s six food distribution sites. This is Jackie’s story.

We know you care about children that go to bed and to school hungry. We know you care about families that live in food deserts and lack access to high quality, affordable fruits, and vegetables. And, we know you care about the hardworking Houstonians that needed help after losing shelter or employment after Hurricane Harvey.

Houston's historic Fifth Ward and surrounding northeast Houston neighborhoods were some of the hardest hit by the recent flooding impacting our city. Harvey dealt a tremendous blow to countless seniors and families who were already struggling to make ends meet. Target Hunger has been serving the people of these great communities for nearly thirty years, and we're still here, ready to do what we can to help our neighbors in need recover after the storm
